The Flash Mob is a band that had no problem finding its groove. Formed from the remnants of Boondok Saints and Ultrachronic, the outfit got off to an auspicious start providing main support for the Flobots and hasn't looked back. A song the players wrote the first time they practiced together, "By My Side," has already appeared on a comp alongside Sublime and Slightly Stoopid, and the group has opened for Ziggy Marley. We caught up with the guys — guitarists D. Flash Mob’s seven song disc, Common Thread, is the conglomerate efforts of two well known bands: Ultrachronic and the Boondok Saints, thus the fitting album title. Marrying up the Rock/Funk/Reggae thing is nothing new ala Sublime, yet Flash Mob add their own twist with fresh vocal expression on songs such as “Ode to Girls”, “Rally Cry” and “Voices”. “Happy Ending”, featuring Angie Stevens and “Price to Pay” featuring Lori Croser, show that Flash Mob have the confident ability to go outside the traditional box that tends to close in on acts that have a musical definition they believe in. “By My Side” is the hip swaying radio hit on the record, especially with its reggae guitar pulls and contagious hooky beats. Big props to the band for reaching out to the community, and to yours truly, and asking us what we thought of the rough unmixed demos a couple months ago. Wisdom goes far when you listen to the ones that talk about, spin and buy your records. Catch them live July 11^th with Umconscious at the Walnut Room.

"It's pretty amazing how well things have started for The Flash Mob," CMB's own D. Scott emphasizes as he tells of his new group.  Formed from the separation of two great Denver-based bands, The Flash Mob has seen very rare opportunities in the short while they have been playing together.  Asking a few members from the Boondok Saints to join was a challenge for Dave, Kyle, and D. Scott of Ultrachronic: "after those first few weeks of writing, it just didn't feel right for this new band to continue on under the old identity anymore, so we gave ourselves a new one.  It's a different style of music, it felt great to start up brand new."  Their first single "By My Side" was recorded at Rudy's Studio and immediately picked up by SoBe Beverages to be featured alongside other Denver locals Optimal Frequency and Rhythm Vision on the Pray For Snow compilation that is distributed at skate/snow stores nationwide.  As if that wasn't enough for a newly formed group, The Flash Mob is going to be main support for Ziggy Marley on December 6th at Vail Snow Daze in the Dobson Ice Arena.  "We are still beside ourselves about the show, to be the only ones opening for Ziggy in front of 3000 people for our fourth live performance as The Flash Mob is just mind blowing, no other words to describe it."
