The Flash Mob awarded Westword Music Showcase winner for Funk!
Thursday, July 01, 2010

Awestruck... Stunned... Humbled... Honored... Freaking PSYCHED! How else to describe how we're feeling about last night's recognition at the Westword Music Showcase awards show at The Bluebird Theater? How else to describe how we feel about all of you fans, friends, strangers, online listeners, and local musicians who have supported us and helped make this a reality? The Flash Mob may not be your classic funk band, but we have funk roots and funk in our blood, and we are grateful for all of you who recognize this - independent of the award, let alone the nomination! We were up against some extreme talent in the Funk category - it was an honor to have our names on the same ballot as the rest of the nominees.

We missed the awards show to continue working on our next album in the recording studio. In retrospect, it would have been sweet to be at The Bluebird last night... but we're also focused on getting more new music out to you who made last night a reality!

Stay tuned - we're gearing up for a summer of killer shows with amazing local bands, and we're writing and recording new material to distribute to the masses as soon as we can!

-The Flash Mob

Two new shows announced
Friday, January 30, 2009

Over the last couple of months, we've had our noses to the grindstone at the studio working on our tracks.  What was looking like an eight song EP is now looking like it's becoming a full length album with ten songs, which we're really amped about.  The trade off for that was that with all this work in the studio, we haven't been able to get out and play as many shows as we would have liked.  We'll be hitting the stage a bit more though as the new record project winds down and as we begin promoting the new disk.  It's coming along nicely - we can't wait to get it out to you!

But even with all the work we're putting into the studio, we'll still find a way to get out and sneak in a few shows here and there - and with that being said, we have a couple of new ones here that we'd like to announce - so put these on your calendars:

Lion Vibes, The Flash Mob, Audible Abilities, and Four To Go
Friday, February 13th
Doors at 7 PM, show at 8 PM
The Toad Tavern
5302 South Federal Circle
Littleton, CO  80123
21+, $6

"March of the Zombies" Fashion Show, with The Flash Mob, Chainsaw Love Affair and Shitwolf
Saturday, March 7th
Doors at 8 PM, show at 9 PM
Bender's Tavern
314 East 13th Avenue
Denver, CO  80203
21+, $6 in advance/$8 day of show
Spectators who arrive "zombiefied" will recieve $3 off the ticketed door price!
Tickets available at www.benderstavern.com

It's almost a form of "cabin fever" from all this time we've spent in the studio has set in, so we're totally stoked to be getting back on the stage and doing what we feel like we do best.  It feels like our last show on New Year's Eve was forever and a day ago!  These upcoming shows at The Toad and Bender's are going to be a lot of fun.

For the latest on these shows and everything else that's been going on with The Flash Mob, visit our website at www.theflashmob.net.

New Year's Eve 2009 at Herman's Hideaway
Monday, December 29, 2008

Celebrate New Year's 2009 with The Flash Mob this Wednesday, December 31st at Herman's Hideaway - with P-Nuckle, Lion Souljahs, and MF Kaaos!

Come count in 2009 with The Flash Mob this Wednesday, December 31st at Herman's Hideaway! Doors open at 7 PM. Opening the show at 8 PM will be MF Kaaos (a duo featuring The Flash Mob's very own Matt Fink and DJ Kaaos), then at 9 PM, The Flash Mob will be providing support for Lion SoulJahs (at 10 PM), and P-Nuckle will finish the night (starting at 11 PM).

Cover for the evening is only $10, and includes a champagne toast and drink specials all night. Compare that to some of the other events in town and you'll find that it's a night on the cheap! This event will be 21 and over. Herman's Hideaway is located at 1578 S. Broadway in Denver at the intersection of Broadway and Iowa. View Map

This will be a fun night - don’t miss it!

In the studio in November, and a very special announcement!
Monday, November 03, 2008

"No November shows?  What the hell!"

No worries - all is good!  We're taking the month of November to lay down some tracks on our EP, so we don't have any shows scheduled this month.  We expect that we'll be playing one or two shows in December though, so we'll post an update when we get those shows lined up.

We've been working on our EP for a few months now, which will consist of at least 8 songs, including "By My Side", which appeared on the SoBe Pray for Snow disk last year.  We've been working with Jason Wagner from Rhythm Vision, who owns and operates Sonic Conscious Studios out of his home in Denver.  Jason's been great to work with - he has a taste for quality gear and has an excellent ear for good tone.  We hope to get the tracking phase done by the end of the month.

In other news, guess who just joined The Flash Mob on a permanent, fulltime basis?

DJ KAAOS!

Needless to say, we are SUPER DUPER STOKED to finally have our brother onboard in this capacity.  Kaaos has always been considered a part of the crew and always had the invite extended to him - so we are thrilled that he's now no longer the "guest turntablist" and now calls this band his own.  We're all looking forward to extending our sonic reach with some KICKASS collaboration ahead, and we're looking forward to a hell of a lot of fun as well.

WELCOME ABOARD BROTHA!

Jason is a good friend of ours and he did a stellar job with "Stand Up and Erupt" - the brand spankin' new disk from his band, Rhythm Vision. We hope to have this done sometime before the end of this summer, and will be sure to keep you updated on the details. If we get any teaser tracks available, we will let you know of that as well. Stay tuned!

Now on the radio every Monday night at 10 PM on 99.5 The Mountain!

We are very pleased to announce that our first studio track, "By My Side," was chosen as the new theme music for The Mountain Homegrown Show - which airs on Mondays at 10-12 PM on 99.5 The Mountain (KQMT-FM Denver), and features Colorado's best local acts! We also expect to make a studio appearance soon on the show, and we will be sure to let you know when that is happening.

We are very happy and very grateful to be given the opportunity to open The Mountain Homegrown Show every Monday night. Our hats are off to Jake Schroeder of The Mountain Homegrown Show for giving us this shot. So tune into 99.5 on Monday nights at 10, and catch us, and a slew of great Colorado bands that are all helping to push this music scene into the national spotlight!

Peace and positivity!

Congrats to the Flobots!

Our friends the Flobots just signed a major-label deal with Universal Republic Records - a division of Universal Music Group! The Flobots are one of the hardest-working bands in Denver. This couldn't have happened to a better group of individuals, and we couldn't think of a better band to represent Denver. We are so happy for the Flobots and we wish them all the best in their endeavors ahead.

"By My Side" is on every Monday night at 10 PM on 99.5 The Mountain (KQMT Denver)!
Tuesday, April 01, 2008

This ain’t no April Fool’s!

On Saturday, we played an event called the UMX (the Ultimate Music Xperience), which is an event held every year that auditions 60-80 bands over two days for Denver's People’s Fair. It was a super short, 10-minute set where we played two songs ("By My Side" and "Ode To Girls"), but with all those bands appearing on two stages, the UMX turned out to be such a fun event! We played the Mountain stage, which was hosted by Jake Schroeder - host of The Mountain Homegrown Show on 99.5 FM The Mountain (KQMT Denver).

It turned out that we were in the right place at the right time. After we played our set, Jake approached us and asked us if we would like to appear on The Mountain Homegrown Show. We were totally stoked about the idea and we handed him a copy of the SoBe compilation that our track, "By My Side" is featured on. Last night, thr track was featured as the opening song, and Jake announced that it was going to be the new theme music for the show - which is switched up only two to three times every year!

We are incredibly grateful to Jake Schroeder and The Mountain for getting behind our track and for showing this huge gesture of support that no doubt will lead to other opportunities. We will be appearing in studio on The Mountain Homegrown Show sometime within the next one or two months, so once we finalize the schedule for that, we will be absolutely sure to let you know!

How cool is that? Needless to say, we are very happy.

The Flash Mob will be playing not one, but TWO shows this Saturday!

The UMX is a two-day long event on March 29th and 30th featuring 60 bands playing sets of two songs or ten minutes - whichever is shorter.  It's a great event to get a good sampling some of the best talent that the local scene has to offer.

The best acts at the UMX will be offered a set at the CHUN People's Fair, which features over 120 bands on six stages on June 6th, 7th, and 8th.  We're honored to be selected for the UMX and would absolutely love to be on the People's Fair bill.  We would love to have your support!

Vail Snow Daze with Ziggy Marley
Tuesday, December 11, 2007

On Saturday, December 6th 2007, The Flash Mob rocked Dobson Arena as the opening act for Ziggy Marley!

Everything about the night was huge - the stage, the sound, the opportunity, the crowd... We took the stage at 7:00 and looked over a sea of 3000 people! The rush was insane, and the fun was just beginning. We played a 45-minute set, capped by a power failure that left Wayne's and Dave's amp silent as the snow falling outside. With some quick action by the sound engineers, Dave was up and rocking again before the last song was over - Wayne just kept rocking the mic like nothing happened. All in all it was an experience none of us will forget!

It was our second mountain gig in as many weeks, and we hope to play many more in the future. Something about the thin air gets the music juices flowing! We greatly appreciate the sound engineer's dedication to our performance, as well as the rest of the Highline Entertainment group that made that evening possible.

I also want to personally thank the family and friends that made the trecherous trip to help support us! We couldn't do it without you. You know who you are.

You can see pictures from the gig in our photo album - enjoy!

36 Hours of Keystone
Sunday, December 02, 2007

36 Hours of Keystone absolutely ROCKED!

The folks at The Green Light were great and the energy in the room was hoppin'!  It was a PACKED house: there were lines to get into the room all night long.  Poor Fink was sick as a dawg, but he kicked ass behind the kit and lit up the room with some killer beats, and a thumpin' drum and bass solo with Dave - who was slappin' the shit out of his bass that night.  All the while, Wayne and Kyle were in command of the crowd and making them jump.  And me, well, I just did my thing on the guitar and laid down some smooth lines.

What a fun night that was - mountain gigs rule!  We'd like to thank the folks at The Green Light in Keystone, CO for their hospitality and professionalism.  We'd also like to give mad ups to SoBe Beverages and Tim "Taco Laredo" Alexander - whose support has been incredible.  Grab yourself a SoBe folks - it's a great beverage, and there are some great people behind it!

Check out the pics of the show in our Photo Album!  It was a fun night.

Thanks to everyone who came to our debut show!
Sunday, October 28, 2007

Thanks to everyone that came out to Herman's Hideaway last night for our debut show!

The Halloween Costume Extravaganza with Flobots, The Flash Mob, Furious George & the Monster Groove and The Johnson Project was packed and hopping - even with a World Series game in town and playing on the same night! All of the bands absolutely killed it - we couldn't have asked for a better evening to make our debut at. If you came out to see the show, thank you so much - you helped make it an incredible evening. It was great to see friends and make new ones.

Please let us know what you think of the band!

Here at Castle Clubhoppery, we keep tabs on the ever-shifting sands of Denver's music scene.  So when a band like The Flash Mob just, um, appears (ironic name alert) seemingly having sprung fully-formed from the Rock God's brow, we invite 'em to sit  by the hearth and tell us a few things. Like what they have cooking before their inaugural show and CD-release party Saturday at Herman's Hideaway (for discounted tickets, check out theflashmob.net).

  • What did The Flash Mob do over the weekend? The Flash Mob was busy recording some pre-production tracks for our upcoming studio album, did a promo shoot on the roof of Kyle's downtown loft, and reviewed a compilation disc that a track of ours is appearing on and being shipped to 1,400 skate, surf, and snowboard shops nationwide. Individually, Matt Fink (drums, vocals) hung out with his father, who's in town from Maui for a week; Dave Crotser (bass) went to a double-birthday party which, strangely, was comprised primarily of people from Kentucky; Kyle Ingram (vocals, guitar) saw Brandi Carlisle [sic] play at the Gothic, wrote lyrics and practiced on his guitar; and D. Scott Morris (guitar) "flew" in 120-mph winds at the indoor skydiving facility on the south side of town.  We really don't know what Wayne Alden (vocals, guitar) did since he lives in Bailey and is more or less "electronically isolated".

  • What do you have planned for next week? On Saturday, The Flash Mob is having our debut show! We're playing with guest turntablist DJ Kaaos, and will be on third out of four bands at the Herman's Hideaway "Halloween Costume Extravaganza" providing main support for Flobots - who are absolutely incredible and leave it all on the stage every single time they play. Also on the bill will be Furious George & the Monster Groove, back after an eight-year hiatus from playing in Denver, and opening will be The Johnson Project.  We couldn't ask for a better bill to make our debut at.

In the studio
Saturday, September 29, 2007

We've been at Rudy's Studio in north Denver recording "By My Side" this weekend. Last night we got drums, bass and guitars tracked, and today we will be getting the vocals tracked down. We're hoping to have it mixed and mastered by Monday. Once we get the song finished, we will post it here.

So what the hell is a "flash mob" anyway?
Sunday, September 16, 2007

From Wikipedia:

"A flash mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, then quickly disperse. News media and commentators have often misused the term 'flash mob' to refer to nearly any form of public gathering."

While we don't literally fit that definition, we admire the concept. As it relates to us, The Flash Mob is a band out of Denver, CO that formed in July of 2007 when members of two bands - Boondok Saints and Ultrachronic - joined together to form a new project.

The Flash Mob is: Kyle Ingram on vocals, Wayne Alden on vocals and guitar, Matt Fink on vocals and drums, D. Scott Morris on guitar, and Dave Crotser on bass.

We're very optimistic about this new venture, and we hope that we can bring the best of Boondok Saints and Ultrachronic together in a synnergistic hybrid of musical styles that fans of both bands will dig. We're planning on making our debut in October or November of 2007, so stay tuned for news and updates. For updates via email, go back to our profile page and enter your email address in the form that appears in the bio section.
